Letters To The Editor

Do You Support Raising Taxes?

August 30th, 2017 by
The following is a letter to the editor from councilman Chris Rich. He is breaking down the budget and taxes facing Aubrey and is looking for your input.  Okay Aubrey neighbors, time for another poll. This one is more important than the last one. It’s budget time and has to do with the tax rate. I’ll start with a little background so you have more of an understanding of what I’m asking. The City of Aubrey currently has a tax rate of $.561956 per $100 on the appraised value of your home. The Mayor is proposing to keep the rate the same ($.561956) this year. This equals an increase of 3.

High School Football Injury Makes For Fulfilling Career

July 14th, 2017 by
Folks in north Texas know that high school football is big. To dedicated young athletes with division one aspirations it often feels like everything.  You can imagine the severe disappointment that the young Dr. Wes McFall, P.T.,D.P.T. experienced then when he suffered a career ending injury in the middle of his senior season. It was a complicated wrist fracture that felt like the end of the world as it rocked his juvenile identity. Little did he know this hardship would help him find faith and catalyze his journey to a fulfilling career in rehabilitation as a physical therapist. “I too

Looks like we have a friendly wager between Aubrey and Pilot Point.  Aubrey’s Mayor Pro Tem, Jeff Perry and Pilot Point Mayor, Shea Dane Patterson have bet on this year’s varsity football game. The loser will wear the opposing teams jersey to the next month’s council meeting. “I ran into the awesome Honorable Shea Dane Patterson, Mayor of the great city of Pilot Point, at the fireworks show in Tioga. Mayor Meyers ignores state law and acts with impunity in her role as Mayor of Aubrey

May 23rd, 2017 by
The most recent decision by Mayor Meyers has her and the city heading into possible legal waters over the separation of employment with City Administrator Matt McCombs. The official position from the city is that the council is negotiating the terms of the separation with McCombs but multiple council members, including Councilman Jeff Perry, have expressed that not only are they not participating in the negotiations, they were not aware that it would be anything more than a request for a resignation letter. They were surprised when they received notice on Wednesday that he had been terminated.

North Texas Snake Safety

May 8th, 2017 by
We’ve been seeing more snakes lately due to the mild temperatures. Snakes usually avoid temperature extremes and prefer to hunt in mild conditions. They use their forked tongues and in the case of rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, and copperheads, heat-sensitive facial pits to determine what is in their environment and to find their prey. Some of the small, pencil-sized snakes (Rough Earth Snakes) eat earthworms and crickets. While not venomous, they can cause heart-stopping panic when you are working in your landscape or garden and put your hand on one! What do we do about snakes? Let me pass on

Lady Chaps Track Results

May 1st, 2017 by
This past weekend, Kaia Saylor represented the Lady Chaps track team at the UIL 4A- Region 2 Championships in Commerce. Saylor started the evening strong setting, yet again, a new personal best and school record at the triple jump pit. She jumped 36’ 3.5”, which secured her a spot in the finals. Saylor finished 6th place overall, out jumping 10 of the best in this region. Immediately following her triple jump event, Saylor hurried over to get her high jump mark. It is worth noting that there was only one other competitor, a senior from Roosevelt, who was also competing in both of these eve
