This past weekend, Kaia Saylor represented the Lady Chaps track team at the UIL 4A- Region 2 Championships in Commerce. Saylor started the evening strong setting, yet again, a new personal best and school record at the triple jump pit. She jumped 36’ 3.5”, which secured her a spot in the finals. Saylor finished 6th place overall, out jumping 10 of the best in this region.
Immediately following her triple jump event, Saylor hurried over to get her high jump mark. It is worth noting that there was only one other competitor, a senior from Roosevelt, who was also competing in both of these events. Despite fatigued legs, Saylor rounded out the night in 9th place with a final height of 5’0”. While this wasn’t her best jump of the season, it was no small feat to run off the triple jump like she did and then attempt to go vertical. A tremendous effort in both events.
Saylor really raised the bar this season. She broke the triple jump record not once but three times and came incredibly close to breaking the high jump record. Her contributions in the relays, as well as her ability in the 200m, are going to make for an exciting 2018 track season. She is a true competitor and we are very proud of this young Lady Chap!
