While at at Lake Whitney with friends Thanksgiving weekend, former Aubrey City Council member, Clifton “Reece” McKelva was involved in a tragic hunting accident. He suffered extensive damage to his right arm and lost a finger.
McKelva is reported to have been shot in the arm due to a firearm malfunction. We are being told that the ambulance was able to reach him very quickly, considering his location. He was transported to Cleburne and then Careflight’ed into Parkland.
Because the damage was so severe the initial plan was to amputate the entire arm at the elbow but surgeons were able to save it. Reece will have a long road of surgeries, rehabilitation, and healing ahead and will need to remain at Parkland for 3 weeks.
While they have a lot to be thankful for, they will also have a lot of challenges in front of them. Many of us know Reece, Dondi and their children and are looking for how to help them this holiday season. Prayers are requested for Reece and his family. Neighbors are helping with meals and this is being coordinated at Meal Train. Donations are being accepted at Point Bank under Reece McKelva benefit and a gofundme account has also been set up online.
