The girls played a great game tonight. I was proud of their competitive spirit and team play. Kaia Saylor set the tone for the offense tonight hitting the ball with authority, boosting the confidence of the rest of her team. They made the most of the opportunity, and everyone contributed and picked one another up. It was a great team effort with everyone doing their part. They played smart, they stayed aggressive, they gained confidence, and they grew tremendously tonight.

Aubrey def. Bonham

Aubrey def. Bonham 25-21,25-9,25-16

Assists: Katherine Knight (32)
Blocks: Kaia Saylor (2), Katherine Knight (1)
Aces: Laney Roos (3), Kaia Saylor (2), Wylie Dyer & Katherine Knight (1)

After a slow start in the first set, our defense got better and the intensity increased resulting in a nicely played second set. The girl’s determination carried them through the third set for their first district win this season. I was pleased with the effectiveness of our outside attack, the contribution of the middle and right side, the service game, and our team play. We’ve got to continue to work on starting and finishing matches with the intensity and communication that we see when we are playing at our best.

Aubrey lost to Celina

We did not compete well tonight and lost an opportunity. We can’t afford any more of those. We’re looking to rebound on Tuesday night in Bonham.

Lady Chaps def Gainesville

Lady Chaps def Gainesville tonight 25-8, 25-14, 25-16
Current Record: 13-16
Next Game: District Opener @ Celina on Friday, Sept. 22 @ 4:30 pm

Blocks: Rachael Housewright & Kaia Saylor (1)
Aces: Gillian Kister & Kaia Saylor (1)
The girls had a good night, and everyone got in on the action, ending pre-season on a positive note. We’ll be spending the rest of the week preparing for Friday, and the beginning of the next phase of the season. This team has put in a lot of work and grown a lot over the last six weeks, and we’re ready for district play to start.

Aubrey lost to Brock

Aubrey lost to Brock 21-25, 25-21, 17-25, 7-25.
Current record: 12-16
Next game: Tuesday, Sept. 19 @ Gainesville @ 6:00.
Stat Leaders:
Kills: Kaia Saylor (14)
Blocks: Rachael Housewright (9)
Digs: Gillian Kister (20), Kaia Saylor (16)
Aces: Wylie Dyer (2)
Assists: Katherine Knight (24)

The girls had a good start in Game 1 but didn’t finish. They came out with resolve in Game 2. Katherine Knight did a good job mixing up the offense, and our defense kept us in the hunt against a powerful Brock offense. In the end, we just couldn’t maintain intensity for the entire match. We have to take care of the little things and not relax for even a fraction of a second. When we are focused to that degree, great things happen. We have one more match prior to district play. This team has grown and improved over the course of the preseason, and we know we are capable of playing at a high level when the entire team is All In, every moment, every point, every set.

Aubrey lost to Peaster

Aubrey lost to Peaster tonight 16-25, 14-25, 24-26.
Current Record: 12-16
Next Game: Fri., Sept. 15 @ AHS v. Gainesville
Stat Leaders:
Kills: Kaia Saylor (15), Gillian Kister (12)
Blocks: Rachael Housewright (2)
Digs: Laney Roos (21)
Assists: Katherine Knight (25)
After a quick start against a very good Peaster team, we had a string of errors that put us in a hole. When you play good teams, you can’t commit unforced errors. Hitting errors and net violations hurt us tonight. After getting down 5-14 in the third set, the offense got on track again with 6 out of the next 7 rallies ending on a Lady Chap kill. Kister & Kaia came through big in the home stretch, and Katherine Knight is really doing a great job for us. I’m proud of the girls’ fight to the end.

Aubrey lost to Sanger

Aubrey lost to Sanger 21-25, 25-21, 12-25, 18-25
Current Record: 12-15
Next Game: Tuesday, Sept. 12, 5:00 at Aubrey High School
Stat Leaders:
Digs: Laney Roos (16), Kaia Saylor & Katherine Knight (14)
Assists: Katherine Knight (27)
Blocks: Kaia Saylor (5)
Kills: Kaia Saylor (17), Gillian Kister (9)
Aces: Gillian Kister (2), Wylie Dyer, Lauren Knapp & Katherine Knight (1)
The girls came out strong tonight, leading most of game one, but couldn’t close the door in the first set. The next set was a solid team effort and a good finish. In order to finish tough matches, we are going to have to be more effective with our blocking transition and net play, and minimize errors at key points in the match. We’ve got a couple of tough matches at home next week to continue to push us to improve our game as the pre-season winds down.

Aubrey lost to Denison

Aubrey lost to Denison 18-25, 24-26, 21-25
Current Record: 12-14
Next Game: Friday, September 8, 4:30 pm, Aubrey High School
Stat Leaders:
Kills: Kaia Saylor (10), Gillian Kister (9)
Assists: Katherine Knight (24)
Digs: Laney Roos (16)
Aces: Gillian Kister (2)
Blocks: Wylie Dyer & Rachael Housewright (1)

A slow start and some key errors early in the night set the tone for the rest of the match. While the team worked to overcome, it was difficult to find a rhythm & build any momentum. When our offense connected, good things happened for us, but we just didn’t connect enough tonight.

Aubrey def. Ponder

Aubrey def. Ponder 25-20, 25-15, 25-15
Current Record: 12-13
Next Game: Tuesday, Sept. 6 @ Denison @ 6:00
Stat Leaders
Kills: Kaia Saylor (16)
Digs: Laney Roos (17)
Assists: Katherine Knight (25)
Blocks: Rachael Housewright (4)
Aces: Lauren Knapp (2)
The team had a solid match tonight. I was really pleased with Kaia Saylor, Lauren Knapp & Katherine Knight’s service game tonight. This was a good team effort tonight.

Aubrey lost to Braswell

Aubrey lost to Braswell tonight 24-26, 25-27, 21-25.
Current Record: 11-13
Next Game: @ Aubrey v. Ponder

Kills: Kaia Saylor (13), Gillian Kister (12)
Digs: Laney Roos (16), Kaia Saylor (13)
Assists: Katherine Knight (26)
Blocks: Rachael Housewright & Kaia Saylor (2)
Aces: Wylie Dyer (1)

The Lady Chaps fell behind early in each of the three sets tonight and had difficulty closing out after battling back. The girls played with intensity tonight, and we’ve got to continue to build on that while correcting our own errors more quickly.

Lady Chaps lost to Boyd

Lady Chaps lost to Boyd 17-25, 12-25, 13-25, Argyle 17-25, 17-25, 16-25 & Joshua 25-19, 25-16, 24-26, 23-25, 6-15.
Current Record: 9-11
Next Game: 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 26 @ Argyle
Stat Leaders on the day:
Kills: Kaia Saylor (48)
Assists: Kathrine Knight (62)
Blocks: Rachael Housewright & Kaia Saylor (6)
Aces: Kaia Saylor & Wylie Dyer (2)

Today was a rough day on the court. While we played some good competition, we did not play our best. Inconsistency from the service line and on offense hurt us all day. Laney played good defense and did a good job with serve receive, and Kaia Saylor was productive for us on offense.

Aubrey def. Pilot Point

Aubrey def. Pilot Point 25-9, 25-11, 25-14
Current Record: 9-8
Next action: Thursday, Aug. 24 @ Sawyer Camillo Memorial Tourney in Argyle

Digs: Laney Roos (13)
Blocks: Kaia Saylor (2), Rachael Housewright (1), Gillian Kister (1)
Aces: Wylie Dyer & Gillian Kister (3)

After a slow start at the beginning of game one, due to key errors, the Lady Chaps picked up the focus and intensity and finished strong. They found a rhythm and executed the game plan effectively. Game three was a little rough, but the finish was strong. We appreciate the home crowd and their support!

Congratulations to the Lady Chap JV 1 team, coached by Kylie Roos! Our JV Lady Chaps were tournament champions today at the S&S Tournament!
They defeated S&S 25-16, 25-14 in the Finals match. We are proud of these girls!!

Out of the 12 sets of volleyball we played in this tournament, 11 were very well played, and that’s the difference between first & second place. The team executed strategies nicely and played some really solid defense and hitter coverage today. Rachael and Wylie really stepped up in the semi-final game with big blocks which gave us the momentum and edge we needed to advance to the finals. Katherine Knight had an excellent day today in every aspect of the game, especially from the service line, attacking the ball, and running the offense. Congratulations to Kaia Saylor for her All-Tournament recognition for being a difference maker on the court. We’re looking forward to competing on our home court versus Pilot Point on Tuesday!

The Lady Chaps played a very good match against Springtown. The girls made good decisions on the court and did the small things right which contributed to a solid team victory. In the match against Liberty, untimely errors were the difference in the game between two evenly matched opponents. I’m proud of the growth and improvement this team has shown over the last week.

I was pleased with Wylie Dyer, Gillian Kister & Rachael Housewright’s aggressive swings. Laney Roos took charge of the back row defense, and Katherine Knight’s team leadership was valuable throughout the night. We’ve got several things to work on before our next game, but every one of those is do-able.
